Hello everyone !

It was turn to ask to HERBALIFE how are their procedures...and if animals are involved in it.

Good afternoon.
I have some questions for HERBALIFE on which I would like to have an honest and clear answer upon.

Does HERBALIFE conduct animal testing or not?
And do you sell products to China?

Life

The message was submitted and I am currently waiting for their answer.
Despite of receiving an answer or not, I shall post how it all went in this post.

UPDATE : I received the answer today at the 19th of March.

Hello Life,

Thank you for contacting Herbalife. With respect to your inquiry:
Good afternoon. I have some questions for Herbalife on which I would like to have an honest and clear answer upon. Does Herbalife conduct animal testing or not? And do you sell products to China? Regards from a concerned consumer, Life.

Although animal testing is commonly used to test household preparations, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals for human use, Herbalife’s policy is not to test any of its finished products, including food, cosmetics and dietary supplements on animals, except when there is a specific regulatory requirement. When animal testing is mandatory, any company selling similar products in the country would need to do identical testing. Herbalife does sell products in China and mandatory animal testing regulatory requirements do affect some products registered in China. We encourage you to contact our local Distributor Relations office for more personalized answers to your questions at:

School - Presentations

Good morning , my readers

For today I decided to share with you a little something,
I had an assignment about any topic we would like out of magazines.
Our trainer gave us magazines and told us to pick an article and subject
to make a powerpoint presentation about.

A article about Activism and Greenpeace caught my eye
I decided to go further and do the assignment about Animal Cruelty
(Still wondering if I should share the presentation or not!)
Plus we all had to speak during the whole presentation in English
(Not my main language but can I surely consider it my second language)

So...
1. I gathered the material and wrote text (of my own),
2. Searched for relevant information and then divided it.
3. Tried to create the presentation to cause impact and raise awareness.
4. Added some effects and finished it.

I confess that I was a little nervous since it was a heavy yet sensitive topic.
Yet, I chose to go ahead and do my presentation first.
I had to do it and waiting more and more would make me feel anxious, later on.

I wasn't sure how the rest of the class would react.
It was shocking for them, yet I know that the goal was reached :
To raise awareness.

«We may seem like little drops of the ocean
But each one of us CAN make the difference»

«We CAN choose what we want to buy, eat and use
And we have the right to KNOW the truth»

I am sharing this for you to know that :

  • We CAN always face our fears and insecurities;
  • We CAN make part of causes, any cause we wish as long as we are willing to do so;
  • It can all go alright and people's reactions CAN surprise you.

I was also really happy to have done this assignment.
It was VERY interesting and learned much from doing it!
Plus, it was a great occasion to establish a little debate
About Animal Cruelty/Animal Testing.

My questions were:

1. Do you pay attention while you are buying make up, food or care products
if they are cruelty free ot not?

2. Have you ever took action to help animals? If so, how?

I decided to leave them here for you to answer as well.
Take care!

Life Asks - AVON and Animal Testing

BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO LIFE ASKS :

Good afternoon,
Since I have been getting more and more involved
On gathering information and knowledge about animal testing
About which companies TEST and DO NOT TEST, to be exact.

Clarity, honesty and actual facts is what we aim for. The TRUTH.
With everything thought through,

I have decided to open a new space for these type of topics called «Life Asks»
Hope you like it. And feel welcome to drop by and leave a comment!

~ Life

--- FIRST POST ---

Original Message Follows: ------------------------

Good afternoon.

May I be known as Life.

I have some questions for AVON Company
On which I would like to have an honest and clear answer :

Does or Does not AVON conduct animal testing?

And does AVON sell its products to China?

I have my concerns about animals and their rights as a human being and as a consumer. And if it is true, I shall not buy AVON's products any longer. Finally, I would like to ask you to think through about this (very important) matter.

Respectfully,

------------------------

I had an answer, afterwards (automatic reply, I suppose) by the company telling me :

We have received your message.  We will respond to your inquiry as soon as possible.
[If it's over the weekend, please be aware it could take up to 48 hours for us to respond.]

A few hours later, I received the actual reply :

Hello xxxxxx,

Thank you for your email sharing your concerns.  There is some misinformation circulating about our company?s commitment and actions regarding animal welfare, and we appreciate the opportunity to offer some clarity.

Avon does not conduct animal testing in order to ensure that any of its products are safe.  In fact, Avon was the first major cosmetics company to end animal testing on products more than 20 years ago.

Avon markets products and offers economic opportunity in over 100 countries.  As we have stated publicly for many years, including on our corporate website, some products may be required by law in a few countries to undergo additional testing for regulatory purposes at the direction of a government agency, and this may include animal testing.  In those circumstances when testing is required, Avon always attempts to persuade the requesting authority to accept non-animal test data. When those attempts are unsuccessful, we must comply with such local requirements.   This is an issue facing all global beauty companies -- we are not alone in this dilemma and we continue to push for alternate measures.

Why don't we stop selling our products there?

For more than 125 years Avon has served as an agent of positive change for women?s empowerment, animal welfare, human rights, environmental sustainability, diversity, and many other critical issues.  When faced with challenging situations around the world on any of these issues, our commitment is to remain in the countries affected and work to bring about change, such as the acceptance of non-animal testing methods in China.  Abandoning a market does not help bring about a solution.

Specific to animal welfare, Avon has worked to advance alternatives to animal testing for decades. Avon serves on the Scientific Advisory Panel of The Institute of the In Vitro Sciences, Inc. (IIVS), a non-profit research and testing organization dedicated to the advancement of in vitro (non-animal) methods worldwide.  We understand that PETA is also partnering with IIVS.  Additionally, Avon continues to support research into alternatives conducted by the Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments (FRAME) in the United Kingdom and the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing at Johns Hopkins University in the US.  Avon is a Founding Sponsor of the American Society for Cellular Computational Toxicology. In addition, Avon works closely on this issue with other companies in the Beauty industry through the US Personal Care Products Council and the European Partnership for Alternative Approaches to Animal Testing.

You can be confident that Avon shares your commitment to animal welfare. Respect for animal welfare is a cornerstone of Avon?s product safety philosophy, and Avon continues to actively work to advance the use of alternatives to animal testing worldwide.

Sincerely,
Tod Arbogast
Vice President, Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility

NOTE : I have put here the content without alterations.
The xxxxxx is only a replacement for my real name ,
As the company decided to treat me for my real name instead of just Life.

Final note (posted on our Facebook page, too) :

Note about Life Asks topics :

With this new approach on knowledge, activism and having clear answers
from firms that conduct animal testing.
My goal is to make people think/reflect about what fashion,
cosmetic and personal care firms are doing and conducting
Know what is behind scenes and know how they are acting, overall.

With this, I want you to know that the final decision of purchasing a product or not
is only yours and yours, alone.

Peace be with you,

~ Life

Depression - Being Assertive

Good morning !

What is assertiveness?
Assertive is...saying no without saying "no".
It is standing up, for ourselves and defending our opinions and rights.

As far as I am concerned, being assertive is NOT the same as being rude or agressive.
It takes tact and expertise to know the right occasions / oportunities
To make use of Assertiveness.

"We are not born Being assertive, already. We learn it..."

Remember that you will not be assertive at once.
It requires time!

Why is it important?
Because sometimes we need to stand for our opinions and gain control over our lives ;
We cannot always allow people to take advantage nor use us.
By using Assertiveness you will feel less stress and, therefore, raise your self esteem
Along with point three, you will be able to give out your opinion.

With this technique, we can fight Depression
and other problems or symptoms such as anxiety, insecurity,
lack of self confidence and poor relationships.
Situations of avoidance and frustration can be diminished as well.

Points to keep in mind :

+ Body language is important too as it is needed for it to match the atitude.

+ You need to be serious yet pleasant.

+ Focus on what matters and on the problems.

+

  • Use "I" statements. Keep the focus on the problem you're having, not on accusing or blaming the other person. Example: "I'd like to be able to tell my stories without interruption." instead of "You're always interrupting my stories!"
  • Use facts, not judgments. Example: "Your punctuation needs work and your formatting is inconsistent" instead of "This is sloppy work." or "Did you know that shirt has some spots?" instead of "You're not going out looking like THAT, are you?"
  • Express ownership of your thoughts, feeling, and opinions. Example: "I get angry when he breaks his promises." instead of "He makes me angry." or "I believe the best policy is to…" instead of "The only sensible thing is to …"
  • Make clear, direct, requests. Don't invite the person to say no. Example: "Will you please ... ?" instead of "Would you mind … ?" or "Why don't you … ?"

World - Fashion and Cosmetic Industry

Good morning, dearest!

I have been really concerned with this cause over the past weeks
Along with this one...I am an e-activist for some time already for Greenpeace
And PETA. Not part of them but I am openly, their supporter.

Again, as in many other topics, it all starts in us.
We can all make the choice to buy our products somewhere else.

We all can know
And search for the ultimate truth...

a ) ...On what is happening in the research labs,
The tests that are ocurring and being made to animals.

b) Of what we are consuming...
(Where did that piece of meat actually came from?)

c) On how that fur coat / vest was made...
and how many deaths were needed,
how many animals were involved
"Just" to produce that "statement piece"!

NOTE : The links to images related to the theme can be found on some words. Viewers discretion is adviced
Since the content can prove to be shocking.

I would rather call it a trend alert... (not in a flattering way...)
If you only knew that THIS is behind that pretty fur coat / vest
You would think twice before purchasing one.

As for point a ) ...
Articles : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Animal_testing
              http://www.fightinganimaltesting.com/

Images : this, this, THIS, THIS and THIS...

...Are just tiny parts of what is happening.
It might have been a step for some brands/companies to have ceased animal testing
BUT, we need to do more.

We need to reach out and contact the ones who are responsible
For conducting such tests.

We need to let brands and let that vicious system know that WE,
As consumers, have a voice.
And that we CAN choose to not buy their products,
Whilst their atitudes don't change. We need to be active!
We need to love our pets and animals (as if they were our own).

d) Now that you know part of this reality...
I am writing for you to...

Stand up and make your own choices.

It is up to you!

It is up to me!

It is up to us to make this World
(Instead of somewhere we strive to survive...)
A better place to live at.

Update :
We would like to share to you that
On the 11th of March, the European Union
Is going to forbid animal testing in the cosmetic industry !
Great news, isn't it??

School - Bullying Events

Good evening, my readers ;

After taking some time out to read and learn,
I have been thinking about some major events that happened during my teenage days:
Bullying, that is.
Specifically, through middle and high school and even, after that.

I decided to share with you some major events of my own life.
Note : I do not know if the ones I will write about in this post will ever come across this,
Yet, I will give it a shot.

I have had ups and downs through out my life.

Middle School :

Situation ONE
There was a boy called Wilson.
He was suspended and out of school at the time.
I was inside of the school and he was off the of the limits of it.
He started to make fun of me (the same old names).
I stood still at first, and stared at him.
Then I walked closer towards him.
There was a big wall and a metal bars (grids?) separating both.
We started talking. I gave advise to him, in order for him to study somewhere else.
He thanked me and told me that "I was a good person, overall".

Situation TWO
(Years later)
A group of three boys would torment me during the school time break.
(The same that on 9th grade insulted and nearly beaten me
at a bus stop while waiting for the same bus as them)
After the conversation their teacher had with them...
Days later , they appologized to me.

High School :

Situation THREE
Another Physical Ed. Class.
I think it was that or I was made fun at, at the time.
I was sitting and crying on the bus.
This old lady hugged and told me "everything was going to be alright".
I didn't know her and she didn't knew me.
It meant the world to me and I will never forget that.

Situation FOUR
When I gained courage to enter a poetry contest.
My classmates knew about it, eventually.
They supported me and started to gain interest about my work, my writings.
The final result on the contest was first place and three books as an award.

Out of School :

Situation FIVE
At a Part Time Job.
I was leaving the building and heading towards the bus stop.
There, I found one of the persons that had made fun of me in the past.
He was completly diferent and happy to know that I had a job at the time.

With this , I want to bring a message of Hope to you
And guarantee that:

" No matter how cloudy and stormy your day, your life is
That there will be better mornings and better moments ".

Respectfully.

World - An Open Letter to PETA

Dearest,

I would like to share, today, the letter I sent to PETA on the past 20th January :

To PETA Organization, The PETA team and to whoever it may concern,

Good afternoon.

May I be known as Life, eventhough that is not my real name.
I was , shall we not say exactly a follower, but curious about your function in society and to the world.
This is my first question regarding this Company.
I am speaking not only on my own behalf but also seeking an honest answer,
Probably as a considerable number of people in the World.

We all aim for the Truth and nothing more than that.

Does or does not this company euthanize animals? If so, why?

How do you actually help animals ?

Regards.

~ Life
Admin of Life Blog.

Later on, the reply from PETA Staff :

Dear Life,

Thank you for contacting PETA about euthanasia and our work
to end the companion animal homelessness crisis.
We are glad that you care.
To read about what PETA is doing to help unwanted animals in our own backyard
and why we offer a euthanasia service, please visit the following links:

PETA is on the front lines in the battle against animal homelessness.
Our field workers are on duty around the clock, and our emergency pager is always on.
During hurricanes, snowstorms, heat waves, and cold snaps,
we are out helping cats stuck in tree tops and drainage ditches, ducklings stranded in sewer pipes,
and dogs left to die at the end of a chain —any animal who needs help, anytime and anywhere.

Some of the animals we take in are lost companion animals
—we eventually reunite them with grateful guardians, while others are taken
to local agencies where they will have a chance to be adopted.
PETA helps guardians keep their animal companions by offering counseling tips,
helping to find animal-friendly housing, and assisting in providing humane care.
We do not run a traditional adoption facility;

PETA is a shelter of last resort—the vast majority of the animals we accept are taken in specifically for euthanasia. We take responsibility for the animals nobody wants—the sick, the scarred and broken, the elderly, the aggressive and unsocialized, and the perfectly healthy ones who are thrown away like last year’s fad toy.
We do everything in our power to help these animals.

We treat their injuries if we can, we feed them, we love them with all our hearts,
and we give them a safe place to rest, if that’s what they need.
Sometimes they need the comfort of being put out of their misery—a painless release from a world in which they were abused and unwanted.

PETA is not alone in this work: Millions of homeless animals are euthanized in animal shelters and veterinary offices across America because of simple math: too many animals, not enough suitable homes.
As many as 8 million animals flood U.S. animal shelters annually, and half must be euthanized.
Even if those 8 million animals could be placed with loving families,
there would be 8 million more the next year, and the year after that.

The answer lies in prevention.
We must stop irresponsible guardians, backyard breeders, and puppy-millers who churn out litters without a thought as to where these helpless animals will go.
PETA runs three mobile spay-and-neuter clinics, serving low-income residents in Virginia and North Carolina.
The clinics offer free and low-cost sterilization surgeries as well as other services, such as flea and tick treatments, vaccinations, and deworming.

Since starting our first mobile clinic in 2001, we have sterilized more than 87,000 animals,
including more than 9,200 in the 2012 fiscal year alone.

You can help:
to send a letter to your state’s governor asking him or her to make spaying and neutering mandatory statewide. Not only do they save lives, mandatory spay-and-neuter laws also make good fiscal sense:
Taxpayers pay approximately $2 billion to house,
euthanize, and dispose of unwanted dogs, cats, and other animals in the U.S. each year.

Finally, please know that a lot of the misleading and outright false rumors that are spread concerning our efforts are the work of the deceitfully named “Center for Consumer Freedom” (CCF), a front group for Philip Morris, Outback Steakhouse, KFC, cattle ranchers, and other animal exploiters who kill millions of animals every year—not out of compassion, but out of greed. To learn more about CCF—whose website USA Today said should be renamed “FatforProfit.com”—
please see the following websites:

We hope that this message has shed some light on our work.

To read more about PETA’s lifesaving work, please visit http://features.PETA.org/petasaves/

To learn about what PETA is doing for companion animals and how you can help, please visit http://www.PETA.org/issues/companion-animals/default.aspx.

Thanks again for writing and for your compassion for animals.

Sincerely,

The PETA Staff

Concluding, I decided to show you this letter, despite of the time that has passed;
The reason why is because I would like to share this with you
In order to know your opinion on the matter...

And bring awareness to the following situations :

a) The need to adopt animals whether it is a cat or dog.

b) The importance of being a volunteer.

c) Euthanasia

d) Mostly, how important is to take care of our pets.

Personally I have three cats. Love them to bits.
Their shelter is our house. They stay in the house, during the Winter
And during the Summer, (only sometimes) they stay at the balcony

Note : It has space, it is not too cold nor too warm , just mild temperature
And they have their own house, as well.
They were not adopted, but found
And welcomed with loving arms.
Each one with their own story and past.

Basically,
We can all do something for these wonderful beings.

NOTE : I do not enjoy animal suffering, in any form.
On which I am against animal cruelty and any experiments.
My opinion does divide between being against Euthanasia or not , though.

Does any animal deserve to suffer?

And finally, does any animal deserve to have their life taken away?
